Community Service Hours from Home

There are several schools and churches that require their students or members to do community service hours.  Maybe only a few or as many as ten.  Most of these students are not old enough to volunteer at the shelter and do not need enough hours to be a regular volunteer.  The Montgomery Humane Society has set up a program called “Hours from Home”.  You keep track of your hours and complete one of the following projects that will benefit the Humane Society. Please read the on line introduction to the Montgomery Humane Society and complete our On-Line Philosophy quiz.

Projects:

-          Print copies of our wish list from our website and distribute them in your neighborhood or classroom, arranging to pick up the items on a certain date.  Then bring those items to the shelter.

-          Make an art project with a dog or cat theme.  Please visit one of our local craft stores for wonderful ideas.

-          Make posters to help decorate our shelter walls.  The posters should reflect one of our philosophies such as: why people should spay and neuter their pets; save a life and adopt from a shelter and so on.  Be creative and use your imagination.

-          Make treat bags for our animals.  We usually have 20 puppies, 40 adult dogs and 20 cats.  Please include a variety of treats and/or toys for the animals in a little baggie that our visitors can pass out to the dogs and cats. Make the treat bags colorful and festive!

-          Make a cat bed.  All it takes is an old sweatshirt, stuffing and a quick sewing job with needle and thread.  Here are the directions.

-          Have a bake sale or host a lemonade stand.  Be sure that everyone knows the money raised goes to support the humane society.

These projects must be brought to the shelter when complete along with the completed On-Line Philosophy Quiz for the volunteer coordinator to view.  The coordinator will sign your service hour work sheet or write a letter to the school or church.
