Foster With Intent to Adopt (FWI) Program

ConnorFWI

The FWI Program applies to puppies and kittens at the shelter who are not old enough or do not weigh enough to be spayed/neutered (not able to be adopted out yet). The program is available to Montgomery City/County residents only since the shelter needs to maintain jurisdiction over these animals until they are ready to be spayed/neutered.  Instead of networking for a traditional, short-term Foster Parent who would bring the pet back and not adopt, we try to find Foster Parents who have the Intent of adopting the animal they are fostering.  This allows the foster puppy/kitten to leave the stressful shelter environment FUREVER! and go home right away to his furever home.

FWI Foster Parents agree to bring their foster in for booster shot appointments and for their spay/neuter appointment.  Once the foster pet is spayed/neutered and micro-chipped, the adoption is finalized.  If you are a resident of the City of Montgomery or Montgomery County and are interested in becoming a Foster With Intent (FWI) Foster Parent, please click here to apply.

Puppies and kittens that are available through our FWI Program are posted to our Adoptable Pets Facebook Page.

This program is administered by the Montgomery Humane Society’s Adoption Center.  For more information call 334-409-0622, option 2, or email adoptions@montgomeryhumane.com.
