A Family Gift to the MHS Kitten Room

On January 28, 2022, the family of Mr. Benjamin E. Pool joined MHS Board President Joanne Rice, MHS Executive Director Steven Tears, and MHS Marketing and Development Manager Lea Turbert for a private dedication ceremony to honor the Pool family’s deeply appreciated financial gift to the Kitten Room of the Montgomery Humane Society, given in memory of Mr. Pool. Mr. Pool, who passed in August of 2020, was beloved by his wife of 51 years, Katherine Robbins Pool, his children Greg Mitchell Pool and Rebecca Pool Hutchison, and his granddaughter Harper Ashley Pool, in addition to other family members and friends who thought the world of him. Mr. Pool adored animals, and he especially had a heart for cats. Throughout his life, Mr. Pool and his wife gave many cats a wonderful, loving home. Wanting to better the quality of life for MHS shelter cats in a lasting, meaningful way was a cause dear to Mr. Pool. His family honored that wish by making a most generous donation, which went to furnishing and refreshing the Kitten Room at the MHS and to providing funds for the care of the kittens residing there.

Upon arrival at the MHS on January 28, the family got to see the colorful, bright Kitten Room – with brand new kennels for the kittens, cozy beds, new blankets, new toys, and pictures adorning the freshly painted walls – all made possible by their donation. The family’s donation also will cover much of the daily care expenses of housing our MHS shelter kittens, as well as expenses incurred for future spaying and neutering procedures once kittens come of age. Those attending the dedication ceremony were: Mr. Pool’s wife Katherine Robbins Pool, his son Gregory Mitchell Pool, his daughter-in-law Mary Pool, his granddaughter Harper Ashley Pool, his daughter Rebecca Pool Hutchison, his son-in-law Matt Hutchison, nieces Elizabeth DuBard and Nell Weisenfeld, and Mr. Stan Hale. Thank you, Pool family, for the generosity. The Montgomery Humane Society is deeply grateful for your heartfelt gift that is a fitting tribute to Mr. Benjamin E. Pool and that will enhance the lives of many a MHS shelter kitten as they await their forever homes.
